Q.
How long
does it take Turning Bear to paint a picture?
A.
It depends on the size and
how detailed the subject matter is. The average time spent for the
average commission piece being 26 x 40 is about one year. This is
because of Turning Bear usually has about three or more paintings in
process and paints wet on dry which calls for drying time.
Q.
What
painting technique does Turning Bear use?
A.
Wet on dry oil, layering and glazing. The type of oil used is called
ALKYD which is a faster drying oil, i.e. 24 hours verses 7 or more
days.
Q.
Are all of Turning Bears landscapes actual places?
A.
Yes. He is known not only for the detail in his work but also for
his accuracy.
Q.
Does Turning Bear paint on site?
A.
Not usually because of the medium and the technique used takes a
long time. Turning Bear does photograph and/or sketch the site or
subject he wants to depict. He says that using a photograph someone
else took both is stealing someone elses art and is voiding out the
personal experience of being on location.
Q.
What is your favorite subject matter to paint?
A.
Landscapes, clouds, portraits, figures, horses and wildlife.
Q.
What is an ARTISTS
PROOF?
A.
It is the first prints coming off of the press where as the artist
personally inspects the details of those prints. Those inspected are
about 10% of the total and is a safe percentage to assure that the
rest of the runoff will continue the same as the first approved.
Q.
What does it mean to have a LIMITED EDITION size?
A.
The
size is the limited amount of prints being run off where as there is
a fixed number and no other prints of that image and of that size
will ever be reproduced. Thus there is a greater value because of
the limited reproductions verses an OPEN EDITION where there is no
limit to the reproduction in any way, i.e. prints, T shirts, mugs,
etc.
